The aim of the international conference series titled HUNCASTLE organized by Edutus University is to serve as a knowledge base for professional researchers, managers, personnel, owners and fund managers, enterprisers, state actors and authorities through a multitude of good practices and examples from inland and abroad and to provide a forum for them to discuss professional issues and exchange their experiences.
In the framework of the conference Edutus University will be cooperating with the Hungarian Tourism Agency, the National Heritage Protection and Development Non- Profit Ltd., the Hungarian Castle Hotel Association, the Castrum Bene Association, the periodical bearing the title of “Fortresses, Castles and Churches”, the Association for Hungarian Castles and Mansions, and the Association of the Society for the Diffusion of Historical Knowledge, providing professional platform for them.
The presentations will be delivered by speakers from Hungary, its neighbouring and other central and western European countries. Besides plenary sessions, some topics will be reviewed with experts and those involved in the framework of sections, providing opportunity also for the audience to comment. The aim of this conference series and the collection of studies to be published afterwards lies in the exposition of the set of conditions determining and the long-standing practice regarding the operation of fortresses and castles―which constitute an essential part of the cultural and historical treasures of our homeland―for representatives of the academic world and practitioners in the tourism sector. The exposition of concepts of fortress and castle development already proved their worth in other countries and their adaptation to domestic conditions contribute to the long-lasting implementation of this. Apart from this, the conference provides an outstanding opportunity for the meeting of tourism, economics, rural development and other disciplines.
The conferences of HUNCASTLE will be hosted by Sümeg the same town where, in cooperation with the municipal government, Edutus University launched its course in business administration and management with specialization in fortress and castle tourism in September 2017, which is the first of its kind in Hungary.
The first guest country of the HUNCASTLE conference series beginning in 2018 will be Austria.
Presentations in the conference can be delivered in Hungarian, German and English; foreign language presentations are highly appreciated. PhD students are also welcomed. The conference provides the opportunity for publication as well since a printed collection of studies is to be issued about HUNCASTLE 2018 – International Conference on Fortresses and Castles.
